Section 1: Who has WHS legal responsibilities – Australia Model Code of Practice: Healthcare and Social Assistance Industry

Australia Model Code of Practice: Healthcare and Social Assistance Industry 1.5: 1.5 Make patients, clients, families and visitors aware of what is expected of them

Other people at the workplace, such as patients, clients, their families and visitors, must take reasonable care for their own safety and that of others and comply as far as they can with reasonable instructions the PCBU gives, including verbal instructions and written signs. For example when a client's father urged a disability support worker to manually lift a client contrary to the provider's no-manual-lift policy because the hoist was being repaired, the worker's supervisor explained the policy and the risk to both the worker and the father.
