Australia Model Code of Practice: Hazardous Manual Tasks
Section 1: Duties and managing the risk of musculoskeletal disorders – Australia Model Code of Practice: Hazardous Manual Tasks

Australia Model Code of Practice: Hazardous Manual Tasks 1.4b: 1.4 Consult workers and health and safety representatives at each step

A PCBU must consult, so far as is reasonably practicable, workers who carry out work and are or are likely to be directly affected (WHS Act ss 47 and 48), including contractors, labour hire workers, outworkers, apprentices, trainees, work experience students and volunteers. Consultation shares information, gives workers a reasonable opportunity to express views and contribute to decisions, takes their views into account and advises them of the outcome. It is needed at each step of the process because workers know which tools and activities cause discomfort and may have practical solutions. Consult as early as possible when planning new or changed tasks, selecting equipment, refurbishing or redesigning workplaces, or working in new environments. Encourage sharing of techniques and technologies and immediate reporting of problems and discomfort.
