Australia Model Code of Practice: Hazardous Manual Tasks
Section 1: Duties and managing the risk of musculoskeletal disorders – Australia Model Code of Practice: Hazardous Manual Tasks

Australia Model Code of Practice: Hazardous Manual Tasks 1.3b: 1.3 Duty holders upstream: design, manufacture, import, supply and installation

Designers, manufacturers, importers, installers and suppliers of plant, substances and structures likely to be handled or used in a manual task have an important role because musculoskeletal disorders are often tied to poor design and layout of work areas and of equipment, tools, packaging and materials. They must ensure so far as reasonably practicable that what they design, make, import or supply is without risks, including testing and analysis and specific information. The Regulations require designers and manufacturers to give each person who receives the design, plant or structure information about the features that eliminate or minimise hazardous manual tasks, and importers and suppliers to take reasonable steps to obtain that information and give it to those they supply.
