Australia Model Code of Practice: Hazardous Manual Tasks
Section 1: Duties and managing the risk of musculoskeletal disorders – Australia Model Code of Practice: Hazardous Manual Tasks

Australia Model Code of Practice: Hazardous Manual Tasks 1.4a: 1.4 Manage musculoskeletal risk through the regulated risk management steps (r 60)

A PCBU must manage risks of a musculoskeletal disorder associated with a hazardous manual task (WHS Regulations Part 3.1 and r 60). That means identifying reasonably foreseeable hazards, eliminating the risk so far as reasonably practicable, otherwise minimising it with controls under the hierarchy, maintaining controls so they stay effective, and reviewing and if necessary revising them so the work environment is without risk so far as reasonably practicable. The code's process is: identify hazardous manual tasks; assess risks where needed (not required for known risks with known controls); eliminate; control by the most effective reasonably practicable measures; and review. Appendix C summarises it.
