Powered mobile plant must be fitted with a suitable combination of operator protective devices, such as an enclosed cab and seatbelts, to stop the operator being thrown out or struck by falling objects, and these devices must be maintained and used. Anyone other than the operator who rides on the plant must have equivalent protection. Earthmoving machinery with a seated operator weighing more than 1500 kg, excluding attachments, must have operator protective structures, either ROPS (roll-over protective structures), FOPS (falling object protective structures) or both, as the application requires.
