Australia Model Code of Practice: Excavation Work
Section 1: Introduction – Australia Model Code of Practice: Excavation Work

Australia Model Code of Practice: Excavation Work 1.3d: 1.3 Consult, cooperate and coordinate with other duty holders (WHS Act s 46)

Where more than one business shares responsibility for one health and safety matter, as often happens in excavation work, the PCBU must consult every other person holding a duty on that matter and cooperate and coordinate with them, as far as reasonably practicable. Duty holders should share information about the division of tasks and cooperate so that no party's activities put other workers at risk. For instance, civil engineers and contractors should discuss with other duty holders the risks of the excavation, including traffic and plant moving near the excavation area.
