A PCBU that commissions construction work must, so far as is reasonably practicable, consult the designer of the whole or any part of the structure about how to eliminate, or if not reasonably practicable minimise, the design risks during construction, giving the designer any hazard and risk information it has about the workplace (r 294). If it did not itself commission the design, it must take reasonable steps to get a copy of the designer's safety report; and for a construction project it must give the principal contractor any information it has about hazards and risks at or near the workplace (r 296). Project managers, architects or engineers may coordinate, but the person who commissions remains the duty holder.
