Schedule 1 Alternative compliance accreditation, fatigue (requirements 2 to 10) – Australia Heavy Vehicle National Law Safety Management System Standard 2026

Australia Heavy Vehicle National Law Safety Management System Standard 2026 S1-5: ACA fatigue, technology-enabled controls: where fatigue technology is used it is integrated into the fatigue management system, supports rather than replaces effective practice and oversight, and does not diminish operator accountability

What does S1-5 require?

Technology can serve as a control or countermeasure in fatigue management, helping to detect fatigue-related impairment, support safer driving and reduce the consequences of fatigue incidents; its use is not prescribed. The criteria: where technology forms part of fatigue risk management it is integrated into the broader fatigue management system; it supports rather than replaces effective fatigue management practice and oversight; and reliance on it does not diminish the operator's accountability for managing fatigue risk.
