Australia Health Insurance (Accredited Pathology Laboratories, Approval) Principles 2017
Part 4: categories of premises and the standards of direction, control and supervision (sections 17 and 18) – Australia Health Insurance (Accredited Pathology Laboratories, Approval) Principles 2017

Australia Health Insurance (Accredited Pathology Laboratories, Approval) Principles 2017 17-M: Category M (Medical): a laboratory under the full-time onsite direction, control and supervision of a medical practitioner designated person, rendering a limited range of testing only for patients of the co-located medical practice that operates or employs that practitioner

What does 17-M require?

Premises qualify as M where they comprise a laboratory under the full-time onsite direction, control and supervision of a designated person who is a medical practitioner, and render a limited range of pathology testing only for the patients of a medical practice that is operated by, or employs, the designated person and is co-located with the laboratory. Testing for anyone other than that practice's patients, or a test menu beyond a limited range appropriate to the practitioner's qualifications and skills, takes the premises outside the category.
