Australia Health Insurance (Accredited Pathology Laboratories, Approval) Principles 2017
Part 4: categories of premises and the standards of direction, control and supervision (sections 17 and 18) – Australia Health Insurance (Accredited Pathology Laboratories, Approval) Principles 2017

Australia Health Insurance (Accredited Pathology Laboratories, Approval) Principles 2017 17-GY: Category GY (General): a laboratory related by a written arrangement to a GX laboratory, under the direction and control of the GX designated person, with each group of testing under full-time onsite pathologist supervision with the relevant scope of practice (or network-based supervision for some groups)

What does 17-GY require?

Premises qualify as GY where they comprise a laboratory or co-located laboratories related by an appropriate arrangement to a GX laboratory, are under the direction and control of that GX laboratory's designated person, and render one or more groups of pathology testing under the full-time onsite supervision of a pathologist with the relevant scope of practice, or, where the groups are in a workforce-shortage discipline and a full-time pathologist with that scope cannot be recruited, under the supervision of a pathologist. The premises may additionally render groups of testing supervised by a pathologist with the relevant scope who sits in the related GX laboratory or in another GY laboratory related to the same GX laboratory. An appropriate arrangement is a written arrangement that provides for the direction, control and supervision of the laboratory.
