Employees are entitled to breaks according to shift length in Table 3: a paid 10-minute rest break for 4 to 5 hours; a paid rest break and an unpaid meal break of 30 to 60 minutes for more than 5 but less than 7 hours; two paid rest breaks (one in each half) and one meal break for 7 to less than 10 hours; and two rest breaks and two meal breaks for 10 hours or more. Break timing and length must be in the roster; the employer must seek to make breaks meaningful and cannot require a break in the first or last hour, a rest break combined with a meal break, or more than 5 hours' work without a meal break. Shiftworkers' breaks are paid (clause 26).
