ASEAN Guidelines for Occupational Safety and Health 5.14: A continual improvement strategy built on monitoring, benchmarking and independent audit, improving performance even where results are acceptable

What does 5.14 require?

The enterprise should keep improving its safety performance and accident rate, using policy, objectives, audit results, data analysis, corrective and preventive action and the management review. Beyond reactive problem solving, continual improvement optimises characteristics that already perform acceptably, so that the business never becomes complacent. The guideline recommends a strategy built from monitoring the efficiency and effectiveness of prevention programmes and of OSHMS activity, benchmarking against other organisations facing the same OSH issues and arranging an audit by an independent professional, and keeping a list of improvement initiatives aligned with business goals.
