ASEAN Guidelines for Occupational Safety and Health 5.12: Effective preventive and corrective action procedures that remove root causes and whose progress and effectiveness are monitored

What does 5.12 require?

The enterprise should run effective preventive and corrective action procedures. Corrective action answers a detected nonconformity in two steps: remedy the immediate problem, then analyse why it went wrong, plan and implement action to prevent recurrence and evaluate the result. Sources include inspections, monitoring, consultation, audits, incident and hazard reports, safe work procedures, nonconforming purchases and complaints. Preventive action identifies potential problems through risk assessment and continuous improvement, finds their cause, plans and implements prevention and reviews it. Documentation shows the problem was recognised, fixed and controlled, and progress and effectiveness of all actions are monitored.
