AS/NZS 3010:2017 Electrical Installations Generating Sets 2.1.3: 2.1.3 Selection of generating set rating from load characteristics

The minimum rating and alternator type depend on the connected load and the voltage control system: motor loads (inertia, starter type, how many start together, and the voltage dip during starting, which can drop out starter contactors), non-linear loads such as UPS, variable speed drives and rectifiers, load power factor (which should not be leading while on generator, so power-factor correction may need to be switched out), and regenerative loads, which a set cannot absorb, so other loads must take that energy. The maker's or supplier's recommendation should be sought, or their sizing software used.

What else in your programme already covers this

This control maps to 2 controls across 1 other frameworks. If you already hold one of them, the evidence you collected for it is the starting point here rather than new work.

  • 5.4 5.4 Energy converter capacity
  • 5.6.1-5.6.2 5.6.1 and 5.6.2 Prime mover compliance and derating

Every mapping shown was judged rather than inferred from wording similarity, and the ones that failed review are published too. See the coverage reports and what was rejected.
