Yearly: inspect the intercom panel for visibility, access, cleanliness and door labelling; test visual and aural indicators, required controls including secondary emergency control panels, a simulated warden intercom point (WIP) circuit fault, the reset function and each warden indicator and control; inspect all WIPs for visibility, access, labelling and mechanical damage; inspect vented batteries of stand-alone systems; call out from and in to every WIP and handset and confirm correct indication and clear communication with the panel operator; test the all-call address so every WIP indicator activates and the address is heard (it can be combined with an evacuation drill or warden training); for stand-alone systems calculate required battery capacity from measured currents and discharge test batteries not replaced in two years; test interfaces; and survey for structural or occupancy changes affecting zones or audibility of the warden call signal, and confirm at least one WIP in every evacuation zone where required.
