Monthly: inspect zone block plans and drawings, the warning system panel (visibility, access, cleanliness, door label, spare frangible element and tool) and vented battery enclosures, and simulate an alarm to confirm the warning signals operate (use of the warden intercom by floor wardens to confirm signals is recommended). Yearly: inspect and test every emergency call point, visual warning device and other warning device and their labels; check as-installed drawings are legible and current; simulate an alarm through the fire system in automatic mode; simulate speaker, call point and visual warning device circuit faults and a fault between the fire and warning systems and confirm indication at the emergency warning panel, FIP and any SIP; test aural indicators, panel controls and visual indicators; measure quiescent and alarm currents and confirm installed battery capacity is at least the calculated need (Appendix F); test ancillary controls; test audibility in all areas; confirm the alarm overrides non-emergency audio; test interfaces (Appendix D); discharge test batteries not replaced in two years; and survey for structural changes affecting evacuation zones and for occupancy changes affecting performance. Five-yearly: speech intelligibility tests where required, sound pressure level at a reference point per amplifier against the reference level, and speaker circuit impedance within 15% of the last test and within amplifier rating.
