Section 6 covers fire detection and alarm systems, including smoke and heat alarms connected to them (Clause 6.4.2), emergency warning systems (6.4.3) and emergency intercom systems (6.4.4); the same tables serve the detection and control of special hazard and smoke hazard management systems. All fire detection and alarm systems are inspected and tested monthly, with further testing, maintenance and survey at the intervals in Clause 6.4 (monthly, six-monthly, yearly and five-yearly). Before testing: avoid affecting other systems and occupants and avoid unwanted alarms; inform the responsible entity of the service and of any impairment so alternative safety arrangements can be made; notify the monitoring service provider (for example by putting the ASE in test mode). Afterwards return controls to their prior state, and log any function left impaired and tell the owner or agent or disabled. Baseline data, records and reports follow Clauses 1.8, 1.16 and 1.17.2.
