Tests use partial and full simulations, under standby power where the building relies on it (the most power-critical zone is enough). Exit pressurization: three-monthly simulate from the FIP and check fans, dampers and lamps in fire mode, noise, door opening ease and airflow through a selected open door, then restore normal mode; yearly simulate from a field device (sprinkler, heat or smoke detector) and check airflow velocity across required doorways, door opening forces, noise at typical and worst doors, restoration time of force and airflow after opening and closing two successive adjacent doors, supply air smoke detector shutdown and restart with the FFCP manual ON override working, brigade manual start and stop, indicator lamps and air relief with all systems running (a representative set of worst-case doors may be tested when the responsible entity confirms in writing there have been no building or system changes). Changeover of air handling to fire mode: every three months simulate from the FIP for each system or zone and restore; yearly simulate from a field device, operate the FFCP manual switches, prove supply air smoke detector shutdown and restart, record zone smoke control differential pressures and confirm fire and smoke curtains are not compromised by fire mode airflows. Smoke exhaust: three-monthly simulate from the FIP and check fans, dampers, automatic doors, lamps, noise and air movement; yearly from a field device, measure exhaust airflow rate, lamps, brigade manual switch and maximum noise. System shutdown, yearly: simulate from a field device and confirm every system that must shut down stops. Smoke dampers, yearly: confirm all open and close as the system requires.
