Yearly, against the drawings and penetration schedules: confirm that the fire or smoke walls, rated floors and rated ceilings (incipient spread of fire ceilings included) shown on the drawings are unchanged, with none new or taken out; confirm penetrations match the schedule, with none new, removed or altered, that the drawings and schedules match what is installed, and identify penetration and control joint work that is unprotected, damaged or wrongly installed (inspecting all light fittings and ceiling hatches); where accessible, confirm walls continue to the next horizontal fire barrier or the underside of the roof and look for damage that would reduce fire resistance in walls and floors. Rated access hatches and panels: confirm what is installed still matches the drawings; check the panel for delamination and damage and its perimeter seal; check the frame is anchored and not distorted; check every screw fixing is fitted and gripping the frame; check hinges and latches work, the full complement of hinges and locks is fitted and no gap shows through at the latch; and check any laminate or hardware added later does not stop the panel working.
