Before any routine service: take reasonable care not to affect systems other than those being serviced, not to affect occupants and not to cause an unwanted alarm; tell the responsible entity (or the person it nominates) that service which may affect occupants or operations is to take place, and the extent and expected duration of any impairment so alternative safety arrangements can be made; and notify the monitoring service provider where signals may be transmitted (for example by placing the alarm signalling equipment in test mode and confirming it returns to normal). On completion, controls go back to how they were found; any function left impaired, disabled or not restored is written up in the logbook and the owner or agent informed. On-site welding follows AS 1674 and the building's hot work procedures. Notes advise holding extinguishing appliances ready and a watchperson during outages, and returning each of multiple installations to service before starting the next.
