Structural timber must have durability suited to the climate, service life and exposure to insects and moisture; members touching the ground or left unprotected from weather must be naturally durable to in-ground Class 1 or 2 (AS 5604) or preservative-treated under AS/NZS 1604, except where the exposure is only temporary.
