Metal in structural timber connections needs corrosion protection suited to exposure, treatment, moisture and salt, to AS 1214, AS 1397, AS/NZS 4534 and AS/NZS 4791 as relevant. In the predecessor, straps, framing anchors and similar connectors are at least Z275 coated, straps at least 0.8 mm thick with 21 square millimetres net section unless noted, and connector steel at least grade G300.
