The Standard sets requirements for building practice and for choosing, placing and fixing the structural elements of timber-framed houses and Class 10 structures (NCC classes 1 and 10) within the limits of Clause 1.4, including alterations and additions to them, and may be applied to other building classes whose design criteria and loads fall within its limits. Its Span Table Supplements (N1/N2, N3 and N4, each for the seasoned and unseasoned softwood and hardwood stress grades F5 to F27 and MGP10 to MGP15) are an integral part of it and must be used with it; unseasoned hardwood F8 and F11 tables may also serve unseasoned F8 and F11 softwood.
