Aged Care Serious Incident Response Scheme (SIRS) Provider Guidance ims-scope: Cover every incident and near miss connected with care

The incident management system applies to incidents, meaning acts, omissions, events or circumstances that occur, are alleged or are suspected in connection with delivering funded aged care services and that caused harm, or could reasonably have been expected to cause harm, to the individual or another person. It also covers harm to a resident in a residential care home that the provider learns of even if not connected with the services. The Commission adds that near misses are recorded, and that in home services the incident must be in connection with care, while abuse seen outside care still needs protective steps and referral.
