All patient-care recommendations must rest on present-day science, evidence and clinical reasoning and present diagnostic and therapeutic options fairly and in balance. Studies cited for a recommendation must meet accepted norms for design, data gathering, analysis and interpretation. New and evolving topics may be explored but must be clearly identified as such, without advocacy for practices not yet adequately supported. An organisation that advocates unscientific approaches, or whose education promotes practices whose risks outweigh benefits or that are known to be ineffective, cannot be accredited.
