Chapter 4: Hazardous work – Western Australia Work Health and Safety (General) Regulations 2022

Western Australia Work Health and Safety (General) Regulations 2022 56-59: Noise: keep exposure within the exposure standard, control at source and provide audiometric testing

What does 56-59 require?

A business must manage the risk of hearing loss from noise and ensure the noise a worker is exposed to does not exceed the exposure standard (an eight-hour equivalent of 85 dB(A) or a peak of 140 dB(C)), applying the hierarchy of controls. Those who design, make, import or supply plant must have it designed and built for the lowest practicable noise emission and give information about it. Where a worker is required to use hearing protection to protect against noise above the standard, the business must provide audiometric testing within three months of starting the work and at least every two years.
