A business must ensure that electrical work is not carried out on energised electrical equipment unless it is necessary that the equipment be energised (for testing, where de-energising would create a greater risk, or where it is necessary in the interests of health and safety), a written risk assessment is carried out, the area is clear and controlled, the worker is competent and uses tested tools and equipment, a safety observer is present (except for testing), and a written safe work method statement is prepared and followed. Testing for de-energised status and isolation and tagging are required before de-energised work.
