A motor carrier may not permit or require a property-carrying driver to drive more than 11 cumulative hours following 10 consecutive hours off duty, to drive after the 14th consecutive hour after coming on duty (the window is not extended by off-duty time, except as the split sleeper berth and adverse driving condition rules allow), to drive after 8 cumulative hours of driving without at least 30 consecutive minutes of non-driving time, or to drive after being on duty 60 hours in any 7 consecutive days (carriers not operating every day) or 70 hours in any 8 consecutive days (carriers operating every day), with the 7- or 8-day period restarted by 34 or more consecutive hours off duty. The sleeper berth provisions allow splitting the 10 hours into periods of at least 7 and 2 hours, and the adverse driving conditions exception extends the driving and window limits by up to 2 hours.
