Chapter 2: greenhouse gas emissions, energy, carbon offsets, Scope 3 and value chain, renewable, sequestered and embodied carbon (paragraphs 2.1 to 2.88) – UK HM Treasury Sustainability Reporting Guidance 2026-27 (FReM)

UK HM Treasury Sustainability Reporting Guidance 2026-27 (FReM) 2.25-2.27: Financial information on emissions: report gross expenditure directly attributable to energy consumption and to accredited offset purchases, matched to the reported emissions, with breakdowns by type and material emissions-reduction spend where useful

What does 2.25-2.27 require?

Spending shall be reported next to emissions: the gross amount spent on the energy consumed, and whatever was spent buying accredited offsets. The money figures should sit on the same footing as the carbon figures they accompany. A split of spend by energy source or category should be added where it helps the reader, and spending that goes directly on emissions reduction projects or low emissions solutions should be reported where it is material.
