Detonating cord must be chosen to match the explosives in use and the type and physical condition of both the stemming and the bore hole, and deserves the same careful, respectful handling and use as any other explosive, taking care not to damage or sever it during and after loading and hook-up. Cord that leads out of a bore hole or away from a charge is cut from the supply spool before the rest of the hole is loaded or other charges are placed. Connections must be competent and positive per approved and recommended methods, and knots and other connections joining cord to cord are made only with cord whose explosive core is dry. Trunklines and branchlines may not contain loops, sharp kinks or angles turning the cord back toward the oncoming detonation. All connections must be inspected before the blast is fired. Delay connectors of the millisecond type, or electric caps with short-interval delays, used with detonating cord must be used strictly as the manufacturer recommends. A blasting cap or electric cap attached to cord must be taped or otherwise secured along its side or end with the explosive end pointing in the direction of detonation. Detonators for firing the trunkline must be kept away from the loading area, and unattached, until everything else is ready for the blast.
