Subpart T: Demolition – OSHA Safety and Health Regulations for Construction (29 CFR Part 1926)

OSHA Safety and Health Regulations for Construction (29 CFR Part 1926) 1926.857: 1926.857 Storage

Waste and debris stored on a floor may not exceed its allowable floor load. In wood-floored buildings, flooring boards may be removed to create debris storage on one floor above grade at most, provided falling material cannot endanger the structure's stability. Wood floor beams acting as bracing for interior walls or for free-standing exterior walls must stay until equivalent support replaces them. Floor arches at elevations up to 25 feet above grade may be taken out to make room for debris if that does not endanger stability. Storage space receiving dumped material must be blocked off except for openings needed to remove material, and those openings must be kept closed whenever material is not being removed.
