The entry employer ensures that each entry supervisor carries out these duties. The entry supervisor understands the hazards of the entry, including how exposure happens, its signs or symptoms and its consequences. Before endorsing the permit and letting entry start, the supervisor confirms, by checking that the correct entries appear on the permit, that every test the permit specifies has been done and that every procedure and item of equipment it specifies is in place. The supervisor ends the entry and suspends or cancels the permit as 1926.1205(e) requires. The supervisor confirms rescue services are on hand and the way to summon them works, and that the employer will be told as soon as those services become unavailable. The supervisor removes unauthorised individuals who enter or try to enter during entry operations. Whenever responsibility for an entry operation passes to another person, and at intervals set by the hazards and work in the space, the supervisor determines that operations remain consistent with the permit terms and that acceptable entry conditions continue to hold. Under the definition in 1926.1202, the entry supervisor may also act as attendant or entrant if trained and equipped for each role, and the role can pass between individuals during an entry.
