NFPA 70 National Electrical Code 2023 Article 701 Legally Required Standby Systems 701.12(D): 701.12(D) Generator sets

An AHJ-approved generator sized to 701.4 may serve as the source if it starts the prime mover automatically on normal power failure. An outdoor set with a readily accessible disconnect under 445.18 within sight of the building needs no further disconnect where its conductors feed or cross the building; where the supply conductors end at a disconnect in or on the building, that disconnect meets 225.36.
