Transfer equipment, including ATSs, must operate automatically, carry a listing and marking for emergency duty and have AHJ approval, designed so normal and emergency sources can never be interconnected by accident; equipment meant for parallel operation follows Article 705; meter-mounted transfer switches are not allowed (2026: 700.6(A)).
