ITIL 4 4.4: Governance: evaluate, direct, monitor

What does 4.4 require?

A governing body directs every organization and is ultimately accountable for how it performs and complies. It evaluates the organization, its strategy, its portfolios and its relationships as stakeholders' needs and circumstances change; it directs by giving people responsibility for drawing up and carrying out strategy and policy (strategy sets direction and priorities, policy sets the behaviour expected of the organization, its suppliers and partners); and it monitors how the organization, its practices, products and services perform against those policies and that direction. Within the service value system, the value chain and the practices operate as the governing body directs; the governing body oversees the SVS itself or through delegation; governance and management stay aligned through common principles and objectives; and both are improved continually.
