Part 122: Registration of manufacturers and exporters – ITAR - International Traffic in Arms Regulations

ITAR - International Traffic in Arms Regulations 122.1: Register before manufacturing, exporting, temporarily importing or furnishing defense services

What does 122.1 require?

Anyone who engages in the United States in the business of manufacturing, exporting or temporarily importing defense articles or furnishing defense services must register with DDTC; one occasion is enough and a manufacturer who never exports must still register (122.1(a)). Registration is not required for U.S. Government officials acting officially, persons whose business is confined to producing unclassified technical data, persons whose manufacturing and export activities are all licensed under the Atomic Energy Act, or persons fabricating articles solely for experimental or scientific purposes, including research and development; but those exempt from registering still need licences and cannot receive one unless registered (122.1(b)).
