An importer may place only conforming products on the market and beforehand must check that the manufacturer has carried out the conformity assessment, drawn up the technical documentation, applied the CE marking, supplied the required documents and met its own duties. If it believes a product does not conform it informs the manufacturer and the surveillance authority and keeps it off the market until it conforms. It shows its name, trade name or mark and contact address on the product (or packaging or document) in Italian and English, ensures Italian instructions and safety information accompany the product, protects conformity in storage and transport, keeps a copy of the declaration for five years and ensures the technical documentation can be produced, corrects or withdraws non-conforming products, notifies the authorities, keeps a register of non-conforming products and complaints, and supplies information in Italian or English and cooperates on request.
