Clause 6.4: Technical processes – ISO/IEC/IEEE 12207:2017

ISO/IEC/IEEE 12207:2017 6.4.5: Design Definition process: give enough detail about each element to implement it consistently with the architecture

What does 6.4.5 require?

The project defines the design characteristics of each system element, allocates system/software requirements to elements, selects or defines the design enablers, defines or refines the interfaces between elements, assesses design alternatives, develops design artefacts, makes the enabling systems available and establishes traceability from design characteristics to the architectural entities; for software the design covers the software elements, their interfaces, the databases and the user documentation and iterates with requirements, architecture and implementation. Activities: prepare, establish designs for each element, assess alternatives for obtaining elements (make, buy, reuse), manage the design.
