Clause 4: Context of the organization, purposes and sustainability issues – ISO 37101:2016

ISO 37101:2016 4.6.2: Governance, empowerment and engagement

What does 4.6.2 require?

Governance models must encourage whole-system ways of involving every interested party so that development becomes more sustainable (ISO 26000 gives further information). Under 4.6.1 every strategy, programme, project, plan and service the organization carries out must take this issue into account and contribute to the six purposes of sustainability; the standard's table for this issue offers example questions for the cross-analysis, one per purpose: how far interested parties and investors are involved and their contributions taken into account; how they are encouraged to preserve and enhance environmental quality and appearance; how the governance structure monitors, reports and addresses resilience; how governance backs the responsible use of natural resources and respects planetary boundaries; how it takes social inclusion, equity and mobility into account in policy; and how it monitors, reports and acts on quality of life, happiness or satisfaction.
