IP is a reusable unit of logical or physical design integrated as a part or component; the IP integrator (responsible for integrating IP into a design with safety requirements) and the supplier of the IP may be a different or the same organization. Four approaches exist for IP-based designs, chosen from the information the supplier provides and the IP's maturity: development to an agreed set of safety requirements as an SEooC on assumed use cases verified by the integrator, an existing design whose safety-relevant features the integrator identifies, a proven in use argument, or, where no supporting information exists and proven in use does not apply, treating the IP's role differently such as diverse redundancy; the guidance covers newly developed, modified and existing unmodified IP, the IP lifecycle, the work products for IP (safety requirements, safety analysis, assumptions of use, safety manual, verification evidence) and the integration of black-box IP where the integrator has no visibility of the implementation.
