An organization should respect, weigh and answer the interests of its stakeholders, recognising that people and groups other than its owners, members, customers or constituents may hold rights, claims or particular interests. It should: identify who its stakeholders are; recognise and properly respect their interests and legal rights and respond to concerns they raise; recognise that some stakeholders can strongly affect what it does; judge and take into account how able different stakeholders are to reach, engage with and influence it; take into account how stakeholders' interests relate to society's wider expectations and to sustainable development, and the kind of relationship each stakeholder has with it; and take into account what stakeholders think when a decision or activity will probably touch their interests, even if they have no formal part in its governance or do not realise they have an interest.
