ISO 26000:2010 4.2: Accountability

What does 4.2 require?

An organization should answer for its effects on the economy, the environment and society, which means: accepting fitting scrutiny and a duty to respond to it, with management answering to those who hold the controlling interest and the organization answering to the legal authorities, and the degree of answerability matching the degree of authority; owning up where wrongdoing has happened, putting it right and acting so it does not happen again; and giving an account of how its decisions and activities have affected society, the environment and the economy, above all any serious harmful results, and of the steps taken to stop unintended and unforeseen harm from recurring.
