An organization should be open about the decisions and activities through which it affects society and the environment. It should disclose, clearly, accurately, fully and to a reasonable extent, the policies, decisions and activities it is responsible for, together with their known and probable effects, in a form that those affected can easily obtain, reach directly, understand, receive in time and rely on as factual; this does not oblige it to publish information that is proprietary, privileged or protected for privacy reasons. It should be open about: the purpose, nature and location of what it does; who holds any controlling interest in it; how decisions are taken, carried out and reviewed, with the roles, responsibilities, accountabilities and authorities involved; the standards and criteria it uses to judge its own social responsibility performance; how it performs on relevant, significant issues; where its funds come from, how much there is and how it uses them; the known and probable effects of what it decides and does on society, stakeholders, the environment and the economy; and who its stakeholders are and the criteria and procedures it uses to find, choose and engage them.
