Accessible bathrooms and shower compartments must be fitted out so that a person with a disability or an older person can use them without help. For a bathtub: a clear floor area alongside of 1500 mm by 800 mm or more, a seat at least 250 mm wide, a rim no higher than 380 mm, non-rotating grab rails 32 mm to 40 mm in diameter standing 30 mm clear of the wall (one at least 900 mm long running horizontally or sloping up to 20 degrees along the tub, set 150 mm to 300 mm higher than its rim, and one at least 600 mm long fixed vertically at the plug end beside the clear floor area), and lever taps and controls at least 75 mm long at the plug end, set no higher than 450 mm over the rim. The later items set shower heads, shower compartment dimensions, grab rails, thresholds and shower seats. The Best Practice Section covers roll-in showers.
