Hersey & Blanchard Situational Leadership Model S3: Participating or Supporting: high relationship, low task

What does S3 require?

For readiness level 3 (able, but either newly able and not yet confident on their own, like a salesperson on the first call without the manager, or able but slipping in motivation) the leader gives little guidance, since the ability has been shown, and a lot of two-way communication and support: sharing ideas and facilitating the follower's decision making, encouraging and communicating to solve the problem or ease the apprehension. Other descriptors are collaborating, facilitating and committing. In SLII the Supporting leader and the individual decide together, with the leader listening, facilitating, drawing ideas out, encouraging and supporting.
