Annex II: Essential health and safety requirements – EU ATEX Directive (Directive 2014/34/EU)

EU ATEX Directive (Directive 2014/34/EU) EHSR-1.2.1-4: Design for a safe lifetime: state of the art, safe components, enclosed structures and dust deposit control

What does EHSR-1.2.1-4 require?

Products must be designed and built on current explosion protection know-how so that they stay safe to operate for their whole foreseeable life; components and replacement parts must function safely for their explosion protection purpose when installed per the manufacturer's instructions. Equipment that may release flammable gases or dusts must use enclosed structures wherever possible, with openings and joints designed so releases cannot create explosive atmospheres outside and filling and draining points limiting releases. Products for dusty areas must be designed so deposited dust on their surfaces is not ignited, deposits are limited and easy to clean, surface temperatures stay well below the glow temperature of the deposit allowing for its thickness, and heat build-up is prevented where needed.
