Ownership is assigned and maintained consistently whether data sits on-premises or in the cloud, under approved and published policy, standards and procedures that apply to both. It covers every data category: source data (migrated or created in the cloud), derived data (calculations, models, aggregations, materialized views), log data (usually owned by a technology function) and third-party data, and both persistent and temporary data. Ownership is established before any consumer uses the data, is recorded as metadata over a maintained inventory, is periodically reviewed, and ownership events and changes are tracked in each cloud environment as policy requires, with tooling that records and tracks ownership in all cloud environments.
