Connecticut Rules of Professional Conduct (Connecticut Practice Book) 7.2-f-h: Fee advertising: disclose cost responsibility equally prominently, honour advertised fees, and matching services

What does 7.2-f-h require?

Any communication that mentions the lawyer's fee, including one saying the fee is contingent on the outcome, that nothing is charged without a recovery, or that the fee is a percentage of the recovery, must state whether and how far the client will be liable for court costs and litigation expenses, in the same print size and type as the fee information, for the same duration if broadcast, and spoken aloud if the fee information is spoken. A specific fee or fee range that is advertised must be honoured for at least ninety days unless the advertisement states a shorter period, and for at least a year after publication where the medium, such as a telephone directory, appears no more than annually. Lawyers may participate in internet client-to-lawyer matching services that otherwise comply with the rules; a service offering an exclusive referral for a practice area in a geographic region must meet the responsible-lawyer requirement in subsection (e).
