Where several adult tenants live in the unit and there is no written agreement with all of them, the landlord returns the balance by one check payable to all adult tenants on the agreement at termination and sends the statement to one adult tenant of its choosing. The landlord may instead agree in writing with all adult tenants how the balance is returned (to one tenant or divided by stated percentages, by check or electronic deposit) and how each receives the statement. Where a tenant ended the lease under section 1946.7 and asks for a different method, the landlord may depart from the joint check.
