Schedule 2 Division 6: Access to, and correction of, credit information – Australia Privacy (Credit Reporting) Code 2025

Australia Privacy (Credit Reporting) Code 2025 20(4)-(5): Send consultation requests within 5 business days with the correction deadline, respond at least 5 business days before it or explain the delay, and seek the individual's agreement to any extension with complaint options

When a body or provider consults another entity about a correction request it must take reasonable steps to send the consultation within 5 business days of the request and tell the consulted entity when the 30 day correction period ends; the consulted entity must respond as soon as practicable and no later than 5 business days before the period ends (or as soon as practicable if consulted late), and where it cannot meet the deadline must advise the first responder of the delay, reasons and a reasonable expected timeframe at least 5 business days before the end. A body or provider that will not resolve a request within the correction period must as soon as practicable tell the individual of the delay, reasons and expected timeframe, seek agreement to a reasonable extension, advise of the right to complain to its external dispute resolution scheme (with contact details) or, for a provider without one, to the Commissioner, and if the individual does not agree, respond within the timeframe it sought.
